Functions of P.I (Press Information)
Section
The foremost duty of Press Information
Section is to give publicity to the
activities of the Provincial Government
Chief Minister, Cabinet members and
various departments. It highlight the
developmental activities of the Government
and its various policies to help inform
and aware the general public about it.
This section is responsible to cover
the functions of the Governor, Chief
Minister/Provincial Ministers/other
Government or semi-Government departments
as well as N.G.Os and VIPs.
This section deputes a covering team
for the purpose which includes one Information
Officer (Reporter), a photographer and
a Video team. If the function is of
special importance and nature where
the presence of President, Prime Minister,
Governors, Chief Ministers and other
VIPs is expected, then this section
take special arrangements to ensure
the participation/attendance of the
media-men if so directed. For this purpose,
it prepares a list of the newsmen and
send it to the Special Branch(local
intelligence office) for issuance of
security passes/badges, it also collect
these passes and distribute among the
media men including senior reporters,
photographers and video teams before
the arrival of VIPs at the Airport,
Railway Station or the avenue of the
function.
This section also make necessary arrangements
to provide transport facility to the
media-men on certain occasions and inform
them in writing or through telephone
that official transport will be available
to them at such place and will leave
at such time on the prescribed day and
date. The Information Officer on duty
also ensures that a separate enclosure
adjacent to the Dias of the VIP is reserved
for the press-men so that they could
not face any problem in taking of notes
of the speech or photograph of the function/public
meeting. After the meeting is over,
the information department also facilitate
the press-men to drop them back to their
offices or at least the place from where
they were picked so that they could
file their stories easily will-in-time.
This section also arrange to supply
photographs/press clipping to the VIPs/Ministers
to let them know that how much publicity
has been given to them through the Information
Service. This Section which is headed
by an Assistant Director or Information
Officer is responsible for the overall
publicity of the Government Developmental
Program of various Ministers. About
24 Information Officers are working
under the A.D (PI).
At present one Information Officer is
working as P.R.O to two Provincial Ministers
simultaneously. A P.R.O also prepares
speeches for his ministers in English
and Urdu for different occasions. Moreover
various developmental activities are
being highlighted through various articles
by these P.R.Os or the other assisting
staff The In charge of P.I Section also
supplies a list of media men/Information
Officers, P.R.Os to the NWFP Assembly
Secretariat which consequently issue
Assembly Gallery Cards for the coverage
of Assembly Session. Then these cards
are being distributed among the concerned
people.
